Camping in Rockland, Maine

Over the last week or two, Ryan sneakily convinced me (tricked me into) going camping.

The company he works for might undergo some changes this coming weekend and since he is in management - if the "changes" happen - he will end up working 7 days a week for 12 hour shifts every day until the "changes" are resolved. Yikes. If it happens we have no idea how long it will last so in anticipation of Ryan maybe having no summer, we decided to take advantage of his maybe last weekend of summer.

The deal was that we could do anything he wanted since it was possibly his last hurrah! We started off with a weekend trip to Nantucket which somehow got converted to a camping trip in Maine.
A deal is a deal! #Marriage

I am really not a big fan of camping for the following reasons:

1) Bugs
2) Sleeping on the ground
3) Bathroom situation is not always ideal

Ryan knows this (our last camping trip was in 2014) so he worked hard trying to make it as Nikki-friendly of a camping trip as possible. This included an air mattress for inside the tent and a water-front picturesque camping spot.

So early Saturday morning, we were off!

We left at 5:30am and hit Portland, Maine just in time for breakfast. We went to a place called Becky's that Ryan knew of from his Bachelor party.

After filling up on a classic diner breakfast we hit the road again and didn't stop until we hit our destination or Rockland, Maine.

The Main Street was super cute and had a bunch of shops and art galleries to explore.

After exploring the town, we headed to Owl Head Lighthouse.

It was so pretty there!

Next stop: the campsite! We stayed at Lobster Bouy Campsite right on the water! Our campsite was had a little picnic table and firepit! Ryan got right down to setting up the tent (I sort of just watched)!

We spent the rest of the afternoon reading and enjoying the awesome view!

For dinner we ventured off to find some lobster rolls... we were in Maine after all!
We ate at Claws which was right on the bay and had a beautiful view!

Yea my husband is hunky ;)

We accidentally stumbled into the Maine Lobster Festival! #SoMaine

After exploring the festival we headed back to the campsite to enjoy the sunset and some s'mores!

When it got dark we watched the stars and settled in for the night.
I didn't sleep super great (was up a lot) but the air mattress was way better than sleeping on the floor and we did a great job keeping the bugs out. I would give it a B+ camping experience.

The next morning we packed up the tent and headed off to explore some more!
First stop was Marshall Point Lighthouse!
(If you know me... you know I am obsessed with Lighthouses)

This lighthouse was GORGEOUS. We were there early enough in the morning that we had the entire place to ourselves!

We said goodbye to Maine but not without one last stop at another little diner!
Blueberry pancakes for the win!

I am definitely not down for camping all the time but it was really nice to get away and explore with my man! Plus he was so happy to be camping in his happy place!
