Crazy Rich Asians Book Series and Movie

Ryan and I finally joined the 2018 lifestyle and got an Amazon Prime account a couple months ago. One thing I was sooo excited about was finally having Audible to listen to books during my awful daily commute. To start me off, I finally jumped on the Crazy Rich Asians bandwagon. I had been planning to read this book forever but then the movie came out and I have a strict rule about needing to read the book before seeing the movie so I finally had a deadline!

And. I. Loved. It.

I got through it so quick! I found myself sitting in the car longer to finish each chapter. It was cute, romantic, silly, fun, exciting and full of love. After devouring book 1 I quickly read China Rich Girlfriend and Rich People Problems. They were all so fun!

I have to give Audible credit for nailing the pronunciation of the expressions and Chinese language. I am pretty sure I would have butchered it had I been reading the books as opposed to listening.

Here is the description of Crazy Rich Asians:

When New Yorker Rachel Chu agrees to spend the summer in Singapore with her boyfriend, Nicholas Young, she envisions a humble family home and quality time with the man she hopes to marry. But Nick has failed to give his girlfriend a few key details. One, that his childhood home looks like a palace; two, that he grew up riding in more private planes than cars; and three, that he just happens to be the country’s most eligible bachelor.

On Nick’s arm, Rachel may as well have a target on her back the second she steps off the plane, and soon, her relaxed vacation turns into an obstacle course of old money, new money, nosy relatives, and scheming social climbers.

After a record breaking audible marathon of all three books, I quickly recruited my mother and we went to see the movie in the theater!

Again - they killed it! The actors and actresses were exactly how I pictured them and it quickly found itself on top of my chic-flick list! My only complaint is that the ending was not how the book played out and that always bugs me when directors/movie writers do that.

I am also officially obsessed with Gemma Chan (who plays Astrid) now. She is GORGEOUS and played the role perfectly!

I recommend the books a ton... and if you are not a reader - definitely go see the movie!
