Worcester Tree Lighting
Over the weekend we went to our towns Tree Lighting!
Unfortunately we missed the actual lighting because I assumed it was at the end of the event when actually it was smack dab in the middle of it... whoops!
The good part about missing the lighting itself was that as we were walking around the downtown common, all the trees were already all bright and pretty to enjoy!
Worcester city common was renovated a couple years ago to attract more people to the downtown area and one of the big additions was an ice skating rink! It was still a little too warm (if you consider 40 degrees warm!?) the night of the lighting so the rink unfortunately closed. To make up for it, everyone who showed up got free ice skating passes to use once it got colder!
There were tons of food trucks, horse carriage rides around the block and tons of entertainment! A contestant from American Idol sang Christmas songs, local radio hosts DJ'd the night and there were tons of booths selling fun holiday stuff!
And speaking of entertainment...
There was an elf performing a fire show. This girl in her 20s put on an impressive fire act (eating fire, blowing fire, flipping with fire) all while wearing a skimpy elf suit! It was my favorite entertainment for the night!
The town of Worcester has this statue of a boy holding a turtle... loving called "Turtle Boy" and it is kind of a local joke... because... well look at it. I'll just say it looks like the little boy is doing something inappropriate to the turtle.
This statue is located in the common and as we were going for a walk around the square.. Ryan had to take a picture with it... lol
My best friend, her husband and their 3 month old met us there. For a long time she was traveling with her husband since he was in the military and we were in Louisiana so we barely saw each other. Now we are both back in Worcester and living in the town we get to see each other all the time!
Ryan's sister, her husband and their one month old met us later in the night just in time for some tree photos!
Such a fun night with friends and family!
Maybe will will make this a yearly tradition!
