Summerland

So my original plan for today was to share our trip to Nantucket but I haven't done a book review in sooo long (and since this book takes place in Nantucket) I decided to share Summerland instead!

Elin Hilderbrand is my favorite for summer reads and I picked up this book because with a title like Summerland then it had to be a perfect summer read! Right?! Well it was surprisingly depressing.

A summer's night, a deadly crash, and four lives changed forever—in the page-turning new bestseller from Elin Hilderbrand.

A warm June evening, a local tradition: the students of Nantucket High have gathered for a bonfire on the beach. What begins as a graduation night celebration ends in tragedy after a horrible car crash leaves the driver, Penny Alistair, dead, and her twin brother in a coma. The other passengers, Penny's boyfriend, Jake, and her friend Demeter, are physically unhurt—but the emotional damage is overwhelming. Questions linger about what happened before Penny took the wheel.

As summer unfolds, startling truths are revealed about the survivors and their parents—secrets kept, promises broken, hearts betrayed. Elin Hilderbrand explores the power of community, family, and honesty, and proves that even from the ashes of sorrow new love can take flight.

As far a beach reads go - this one definitely wasn't as cheery and fun as some of Elin Hilderbrands other books... but it was still satisfying. It was emotional, sad and had a bit of suspenseful story-line in the mix. Sometimes you just need a deep book and this one was definitely it!
