Natural Bridge State Park and Hairpin Turn - North Adams
Memorial Day weekend we adventured up to North Adams and spent a day full of waterfall site seeing! To see yesterdays post about he Cascade Trail and Waterfall go here!
After checking off waterfall 1 on our list we ventured to the Natural Bridge State Park. This place is such a hole in the wall! If you didn't know to go there you would miss it completely!
From the MA state website:
Discover a geologic wonder at this 48 acre park. Examine the only
naturally formed white marble arch and man-made white marble dam in
North America, and tour an abandoned marble quarry. The "natural bridge"
for which the park is named, according to geologists, is 550 million
year old bedrock marble,
carved into an arch by the force of glacial melt water over 13,000
years ago; one of the best places in New England to demonstrate the
effects of glaciation. The bridge spans rushing Hudson Brook as it
twists and tumbles through a steep 60-foot deep gorge.
Can you see all of the white Marble under the water?! It is so smooth and pretty up close!
Can you see how the water made a natural marble arch?
The water was gushing through the canyon area so strong! It was intense!
There is also a very large marble quarry!
Annnd some random statues we couldn't help but fool around with!
Waterfall #2 check!
From here we drove for a while through the mountains on the Mohawk trail! This is famously known for it's hairpin turn - aka really sharp u-turn high up in the mountains! Here is the turn:
There is even a restaurant up there!
And the view is breathtaking!
I actually love this photo so much that I got it blown up on Shutterfly to hang in our bedroom!

Next up in our north-west MA adventure we drove to Shelburne for Waterfall number 3 and some amazing flowers! Come back tomorrow as I wrap up my Memorial Day weekend adventure!
That scenery is absolutely beautiful, especially the waterfalls.
