The Series of Unfortunate Events - Netflix

Before I dive into this post I need to say how big of a fan I am of Netflix downloads! Did you guys know this was a thing? It is a game changer!! I have downloaded episodes/movies for plane rides, for lunch breaks and just this past weekend for our 4 hour road trip! Love that this is a thing now!!!!

So on that topic - on Friday (the 13th) - The Series of Unfortunate Events came out on Netflix and my sister and I were super excited!!! We were obsessed with this book series in elementary school and couldn't wait for the Niel Patrick Harris adaptation! I downloaded and watched the entire 8 episodes over the long weekend!!

IT WAS SO GOOD!

It was true to the books, the acting was perfect and they completely did the story-line justice!

The first Netflix season covers the first 4 books, two episodes for each book.

For those not familiar with the story-line

A Series of Unfortunate Events is a series of 13 children's novels by Lemony Snicket (the pen name of American author Daniel Handler), which follows the turbulent lives of Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire after their parents' death in a fire. The children are placed in the custody of a murderous relative, Count Olaf, who attempts to steal their inheritance and, later, orchestrates numerous disasters with the help of his accomplices as the children attempt to flee their clutches. As the story progresses, the Baudelaires gradually discover a deep background of secrets and conspiracies involving a secret society known as V.F.D., with connections to both Olaf and their parents. The series is narrated by Snicket, who dedicates each of his works to his love interest, Beatrice, and often attempts to dissuade the reader from continuing the learning experience of the Baudelaires' story.

I really cant express how happy I was with the NPH adaptation of the books. When they came out with the movie (Jim Carrey as the lead) in 2004 I was unbelievably disappointed. The casting was fine - they just didn't reflect the books well. That is a big pet peeve of mine!

If you have kids in the 4th, 5th or 6th grade age range I highly recommend the books! There are 13 of them and they are a lot of fun! And for everyone else - I totally recommend the Netflix show. I hope they don't wait too long for the next season to come out!
