Summer at Home
So as I have mentioned a couple times before, my childhood home is up for sale and it is breaking.my.heart! But seriously… I am having a way harder time then I thought I would about it. I grew up in Massachusetts and currently live in Louisiana so I have missed the entire get-the-house-ready-for-sale stage so I think I might still be in a little bit of denial. Then my sister sent me this…
#Heartbreaking! Something about the sign in the front yard! #HateIt #NowItsReal
And it being the first week of summer… it got me thinking about all the fun I have had at this house in the summer (specifically outdoors)!
Lets start way back in the backyard garden….

All my mom wanted was a nice picture of my sister and I… she even let us play with the stone garden bunnies to get the shot… Instead she got squinty-eyed leaning over little blond things! We did much better 20 years later in the front yard!

And yes my little sister is a 6 foot Amazon and towers over me!!!
And yes those are christmas lights on the house in the summer… don't judge.
When I brought baby bunny Willow home for the first time, one of his first big adventures was playing outside and eating up all the dandelions and clovers!
Look at those fluffy cheeks!!
And when he got a little bigger he loved to play all over the front yard!
Always munching on something!
So these pictures are a perfect example one of my houses many quirky aspects! Just look at all those white wild violets! A certain couple weeks of the year the entire front yard gets taken over. I know I know I know that they are a weed but something about laying in the pretty little white flowers will always make me think of home!
The back yard also has it's fair share of quirkiness! For one, our back porch is a breeding ground for birds in the spring! Without fail, the second the weather gets nice, our porch is covered in little bird nests! One year we even had a sneaky bird fly up in the little hole under our grill and made a nest inside it! My dad was super bummed that we couldn't use the grill all summer because of the baby birds!!
Speaking of the porch, one thing that is near and dear to my heart is the porch foundation! When we moved into the house in the early 90s my dad made a patio under the porch and let my sister and I carve our names into a cement block each! This is one of those things I hate leaving behind. Whoever moves into the house will eventually get rid of the concrete and our little kid hand carving blocks will be gone forever. Breaks my heart. I wish there was a way I could take the blocks with me but there is NO way they could get to Louisiana and both my parents and sister will be in apartments so that won't work… just will have to say goodbye with the house…
Honorable mention things that I love/loved (?) about this house in the summer…
This tree! I loveee how the roots grew around the tree and when all those yellow wild flowers grow around it in the summer it has a magical feel to it!
Man oh man will I miss the fire pit! Sooo many summer nights in the backyard with friends and family! S'mores were consumed here. All of our elementary school projects were burned here. So much love and fun!
This is just one of the (possibly many) posts in ode to my childhood home! I go home in a couple weeks and I plan to say a long heartfelt goodbye. **sigh**
