Steps Challenge!
Happy Monday!
Last year we had to complete a health assessment survey and based on the results you had to complete a health "workshop." The workshops were online and you could pick one that fit your lifestyle. For me, I picked the "how to be less stressed" workshop! It didn't really feel like a challenge because the information was actually really useful!
This year it is a Fitbit Steps Challenge! The goal is to take 294,000 steps in 6 weeks! That's 7,000 steps a day! The best part!? They sent us a free Fitbit Flex!
Even though the challenge starts today, I have been testing it out over the course of the week to try and get used to it! Things I have learned so far:
1. It is WAY harder to get the daily steps than I thought it would be! I have an office job which involves very little walking around so I barely scratch 3,000 steps just going to and from work! Yikes!
2. I'm not a huge fan of wearing it when I sleep. The Fitbit does some super cool sleep analysis tools but I don't think it's for me. I like my wrists completely bare at bedtime!
3. The American Heart Association recommends 10,000 steps a day! I'll be luck to make the 7,000! Ha!
So here is how day 1 went… I got home from work and had made 3,500 steps… then after a great gym workout, cooking dinner and other nightly activities….9,663 steps!!! I would say that was a successful first day!
So to my fellow Fitbit owners out there… want to participate in the challenge with me?! It ends May 23rd and you have to try and reach the 294,000 steps by then! If you are a Fitbit owner AND have Blue Cross Blue Shield you should see if your employers have any healthy incentive programs you can participate in!
Comment below if you are going to step along with me! Hope everyone had a great start to their week! <3WC
